    DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

    Hi

    I've got a problem with my DLB2100 receiver. Due to a lost password, I reset the device and tried to configure it again. Now I've got the problem that I get an IP address if I connect my PC to the DLB2100 directly, but if I attach the router to the DLB2100, then no IP address is assigned.

     I saw this post, but it does not help me in any way... : Link

    Here's my setup:
    VSat Modem (fixed IP address - 77.x.x.x)
    -->
    IPCop (Firewall & DHCP Server / fixed IP address: 192.168.0.10)
    -->
    192.168.0.x Network
    -->
    Deliberant AP (fixed IP address - 192.168.0.1)
    -->
    DLB2100 (DHCP IP address - 192.168.0.121)
    -->
    Netgear Router ( No IP Address / 190.168.0.1)
    -->
    190.168.0.x Network
    --> My Notebooks

    Here's the status page information:

    System
    System Name DLB2100
    Uptime 0day:2h:49m:37s
    Free Memory 1892 kB
    Firmware Version 1.4.3e2 20070814
    Webpage Version 1.4.3e 20070716
    Wireless Configuration
    Mode Infrastructure Client - Bridge
    Band 2.4 GHz (B+G)
    SSID MBH-Net
    Channel Number 4
    Encryption Disabled
    BSSID 00:19:3b:80:54:15
    State Connected
    RSSI 30(-78 dbm)
    Data Rate 54 Mbps
    Throughput 1096 bps

    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.0.10
    DHCP Server Disabled
    MAC Address XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    I know that the problem is somewhere in the configuration - but I have no idea where.
    Could somebody give me some hints on how to solve the problem?

    Best regards from Cameroon,

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

     The LAN address on the Netgear is in the same subnet as the DHCP assigned address on the WAN side(192.168.0.0/24).

    Easiest solution is to change the LAN subnet on the Netgear to something different-say 192.168.1.0/24

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

     Oops-Sorry-I misread your post. I see that you do have a different subnet on the LAN side of the router. I'm not in the habit of changing the first octet from 192 to something else.

    Your DHCP server is upstream of the AP, so both the AP and and the 2100 should be bridges(Client Bridge for the 2100 which your config says it is, AP Bridge for the AP). Give the 2100 a fixed IP on the LAN of something like 192.168.0.2. It should not be getting an IP by DHCP from .10. Then your Netgear will pick up an address on the WAN side by DHCP from the .10 server in the 192.168.0.xxx pool. The Netgear will assign addresses in the 190.168.0.xxx pool, but I would change that subnet to something standard like 192.168.1.0/24 or 192.168.5.0/24

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

    Hi I changed the IP address of the CPE to 192.168.0.50/24 after ensuring that the IP address is available and outside of the client IP range. I changed the IP range of the router DHCP as well --> 192.168.1.0/24 Both the AP and the CPE are bridges and the router should receive the IP address from the Firewall / DHCP server - but it still doesn't. I tested it with two different Routers (Cisco / Netgear) and both did not receive an IP address. I took the Cisco router to my office and there it worked without a problem (CPE - Switch - Router). <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Unfortunately, I cannot access the CPE of my office (another strange problem) since the website won't open. I have the IP address and I can ping it. But when I try to open it in the web browser, I get an "Error: Could not connect to the remote server" --> you don't have a solution to that, don't you. Reseting is not an option since I don't want to end up with the same problem there as well. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> But back to my original problem - is there anything else I could do to fix this issue? Thanks for your help, Christoph

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

     That should work.

    Try replacing the router with a laptop. Give it a fixed IP in the subnet of your upstream devices-say 192.168.0.51/24.

    Can you ping 192.168.0.50 and 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.10?

    Can you open the web GUI on the 2100 and the AP?(I don't know if you said what kind of device your AP is)

    If you set your laptop to obtain an IP and DNS automatically, does it pick up an address?

    If you can't even open the web GUI on the 2100 when you are connected directly to it, that's a problem.

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

    Hi Gunnar

    Sorry, I confused things when I introduced another, not very urgent problem in my last post (unable to access the DLB Client of my office). I'll deal with that later on, when I solved the problem with my DLB 2100 at home.

    Original Problem: I did as you told me, changed the IP range of my router but it still doesn't get an IP address. However, when I add my notebook, I get the IP address almost instantly. I can't see a reason why th cleient or the router should behave in such a strange way.

    Do you have any other idea what might be wrong?

    Regards,
    Christoph

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

     Now-just to get things straight, you said "when I add my notebook, I get the IP address almost instantly".

    Are you replacing the router with your notebook, ie: taking the router out of the loop and connecting your notebook directly to the 2100, or are you plugging your notebook into the router. Are you receiving an address from the router or from the upstream 192.168.0.10 server?

    If your notebook is receiving an address via DHCP out of the server at .10, then perhaps the WAN side of the router is not set up to receive an address automatically via DHCP. It may have a static IP on the WAN side that isn't working correctly.

    I recommend for troubleshooting purposes to follow the steps I outlined in the previous post. That way you can tell what is or is not working.

    Plug directly into the 2100 with your netbook, give it an address of 192.168.0.52, 255.255.255.0 and try pinging .50, then .1 then finally .10.

    Try logging into the 2100's web gui at 192.168.0.50

    What kind of device is the AP at .1?

    Let me know how all that goes.

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

    Hi

    OK, to make things clear, I try to outline the problem again:

    When I attach my notebook directly to the DLB2100, it receives an IP address from the central DHCP server.
    When I attach the router to the DLB2100, the router does not receive an IP address (take the ethernet cable from my notebook and put it into the router / I even removed & reattached the POE from the DLB to check if this makes a difference). My computer of course receives an IP address from the router (192.168.1.100/24) but since the router has no IP address from the central DHCP server, I'm not able to ping the AP, the DHCP server or any resource on the Internet.
    When I attach the router to the DLB in my office, it receives an IP address from the central DHCP server (don't know the DLB type since I was not able to access the web interface) and my notebook receives an IP address from the router. And I can access the AP, the DHCP server and the Internet. This proves that the router is not the problem and it's working. I tested it even with two different routers (Cisco / Netgear).

    That's how the network is setup - This way it does not work:
    Internet (77.x.x.x) --> IPCop / DHCP Server (192.168.0.10/24) --> DLB AP 2i (192.168.0.1/24) --> DLB2100 (192.168.0.50/24) --> Netgear router (192.168.0.x/24) --> Notebook (192.168.1.x/24)

    This way it does work:
    Internet (77.x.x.x) --> IPCop / DHCP Server (192.168.0.10/24) --> DLB AP 2i (192.168.0.1/24) --> DLB2100 (192.168.0.50/24) --> Notebook (192.168.1.x/24)

    It's very strange. I don't see a reason why the router should not get an IP address, when the notebook gets one if connected directly.
    I'll send the question to Caleb of Deliberant as well. Maybe he's got an idea.

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

     Yes-that should work.

    When everything is set up as you described (Internet (77.x.x.x) --> IPCop / DHCP Server (192.168.0.10/24) --> DLB AP 2i (192.168.0.1/24) --> DLB2100 (192.168.0.50/24) --> Netgear router (192.168.0.x/24) --> Notebook (192.168.1.x/24)), log into the router and Release/Renew the IP address on the WAN side. What happens then? Does it pick up a valid address and DNS?

    You said this works- Internet (77.x.x.x) --> IPCop / DHCP Server (192.168.0.10/24) --> DLB AP 2i (192.168.0.1/24) --> DLB2100 (192.168.0.50/24) --> Notebook (192.168.1.x/24) - but that cant work. Your notenook doesn't have an address in the 192.168.0.x/24 subnet. Was that a typo?

    What happens if you simply give the Netgear a fixed IP, gateway and DNS on the WAN interface? Say 192.168.0.51/24, GW 192.168.0.10 and the correct DNS servers?

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

    Sorry, stupid Cut & Paste error. My notebook gets a proper 192.168.0.x/24 IP address. I assigned the router the IP address 192.168.0.51/24 and tried to ping the DLB2100, the AP and the DHCP server. But there was no response. For some unknown reason, the router does not communicate with the DLB2100 and therefore I'm unable to access a resource behind the router. I'll think about it tomorrow and may look for an replacement to see if a newer CPE is easier to setup.

    Re: DLB2100: Router does not receive IP address

     If the 2100 is just a client bridge and not in WDS mode with the AP it will latch onto a MAC address to communicate with-maybe in this case the MAC of your notebook.

    To get it to communicate with your router, unplug the power from the router, unplug the POE to the DLB then plug it back in. Wait a minute or two and then plug the router back in. This will force the DLB to pay attention to the MAC of the router. Power cycling in the correct sequence can cure a myriad of ills.
