link two cpe 2-12 as point to point?

I have 4 of the older 2112 units, and they are setup to bridge in WDS. These new ones have the chipset and interface, and I can' figure out how to link them up as a transparent bridge. ie one 2-12 on one end, and another 1/2mile away creating a wireless connection. I hope they can do it... Any ideas what I am missing?

The new models won't WDS with the legacy line, but if you're just talking about using two 2-12s for a PtP, then do this:

Upload the AP Max firmware to both units, upgrade, then restore to factory defaults.
Set the first unit to AP bridge, transparent bridge enabled, pick a channel and SSID, set the IP, subnet mask and gateway.
Set the second unit to Client bridge, transparent bridge enabled, set the SSID to be the same as the AP's, set the IP in the same subnet as the AP with the same gateway.

That's really all there is to it. At a half mile with 2-12s you might actually have better signal and throughput if you run them in half channel. This will also prevent stray laptops from jumping on without hiding the SSID or creating access lists.

Where can I get the AP Max firmware from?

I want to do this exact thing. Where can I get the firmware? I tried the link and I keep getting a file not found. I have 2 CPE 2-12 and want to connect PtP.  Any help would be great, thank you.

does the firmware matter between the AP and CPE? The link that you gave is for AP's and I just don't want to mess up the CPE 2-12 if its not compatable. And I don't see some of the options that are earlier in the string to set the CPE's too. Are those options somewhere within the new firmware version?

The 2-i AP firmware works on the 2-12 and 2-n CPEs. I routinely swap the CPE firmware for the AP firmware even if they are going to be set up as clients. The CPE web gui doesn't remember login user and password and I get tired of typing it in when accessing clients.

Got everything working. Communicating fine. But I was wandering about the signal strength. I am getting ruffly 35-37 signal strentgh. What would get me the best? Is there a good configuration to get the best signal strength/proformance? And/Or does the signal strength play a part in bandwith, speed, transfer-rate? Right now I have it set to auto IEEE and auto Channel. The antenna's are about 600-650 ft apart. I have tried the other modes but I couldn't tell a difference. I was also wandering if there was a easy way to align them for the best signal. Any info you can give would be great or at least where I can find it or if it is even possible. Thanks again for everything. I would have never got it working without your help!!!  Yes

Signal strength does play a part in transfer rate, but anything above a signal/noise ratio of 20 is fine. There is an antenna alignment tool in the Tools section, but with a 35 signal it hardly matters. A more useful indicator is looking at interface statistics and comparing transmit packets on ath0 with receive packets on eth0 and receive packets on ath0 with transmit packets on eth0. The closer those two sets of numbers are to each other the better. Smaller number/larger number should be .95 or better for a good link.
